WPL 2024: ‘Learning More Than a Failure’: Jemimah Rodrigues’ consoling words for Richa Ghosh after DC’s one-run victory against RCB

After the Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by a thrilling one-run margin at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday to advance to the WPL 2024 knockout stages, Jemimah Rodrigues, a batter, stated that Richa Ghosh will gain from the close outcome and that she should view this as a lesson rather than a setback.

Richa blasted 51 runs off 29 balls, slamming four fours and three sixes in her second fifty of the WPL 2024, with RCB requiring 89 runs from the last eight overs. Richa was run out on the last ball of the chase when two runs were required. The visitors fell by one run, falling just short of victory, and Richa was left in tears.

Jemimah was among the first to comfort Richa after she was left heartbroken at her inability to lead her team over the finish line. Meg Lanning, Jess Jonassen, Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey, and Shafali Verma then joined in. Shreyanka Patil, on the other hand, was also furious when her off-spin bowling resulted in a 4/26.

She was in tears. I had sympathy for her. I told her, “You never know, such a situation could come in the World Cup and you could hit the winning runs and India might win a World Cup,” even though I obviously wanted DC to win. Richa is learning from this event rather than seeing it as a failure, therefore, she will gain a ton of experience moving forward.

These types of scenarios—players performing under duress in front of large crowds—occur in the WPL. Richa batted beautifully, in my opinion. They are both young, they are children! I feel elderly now that they are part of the Indian squad. They both have such amazing skills, in my opinion.

“I believe Shreyanka’s bowling style was exceptional at this wicket, particularly her yorker deliveries in the last over. She may have given up only five runs. After the game, Jemimah, who scored 58 runs, told JioCinema, “Credit goes to her.”

The RCB all-rounder, Ellyse Perry, said in the news conference after the game that Richa would learn a lot from this Sunday’s encounter. She is a competent stroke player and has a beautiful bat motion. I’ve played against Richa for Australia as well as alongside her at RCB, and having known her for a short period of time, I think she’s really improved over the last year.

She has been outstanding in both her hitting and keeping. She had a fantastic series against us and has continued to play well in the WPL. Even though she is still a young player, she has come a long way. It’s unsettling to consider how talented she may be. From our vantage point, what counts is that Richa gave it her all tonight.

“She gave it everything she had tonight, and she went above and beyond.” Even though she brought us very close, it wasn’t meant to be. She’ll undoubtedly gain a lot of knowledge from that game and improve as a player down the road. Therefore, it only has a benefit, according to Perry.

After suffering a heartbreaking one-run defeat to UP Warriorz on Friday, DC defeated RCB by one run to go to the knockout stages. Shafali, who scored 23 runs in the game on Sunday, took pleasure in Alice Capsey’s and Shafali’s jabs.

In the past game, our hitters were unable to get it together. All of the hitters accepted responsibility for this game. Alice Capsey and Jemimah produced some amazing knocks, particularly on a surface such as this one. From that point on, we believed that even a score of more than 150 would be sufficient, thus, the momentum had turned and the score was threatening.

The ball was spinning, after all. The ball was traveling right to the bat instead of the other way around! Touch wood, all is going well with our batting and blowing. She said, “I hope this keeps up and we win all the way to the championship.”
